Ataur Rahman (born 18 June 1941) is a Bangladeshi stage and television actor, stage director and writer. He was the forerunner of the post- liberation movement of Bangladesh's liberation war . In recognition of his contribution to the theater, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the Ekushey Padak of the country's highest civilian honor in 2001 . Rahman was born on 18 June 1941 in Noakhali district of Bengal Presidency (present Bangladesh ) of British India . His father was a graduate of Presidency College in Kolkata. His mother was also a cultural figure. To his mother he learned to read outside books. His childhood was spent in his uncle's home in Noakhali.
