Dr. Mahbubul Haque is a renowned linguist and researcher of Bengali. Born in 1948 in Modhukhali, Faridpur, he went to the University of Chittagong to achieve his M.A. and PhD degrees. He is currently a professor of Bengali and the Department of Bangla, Chittagong University. Dr. Haque is well-known for his research on modern spelling rules of Bengali. He also has notable contribution in promoting the modern Bangla grammar, folklore research and editing numerous text books on Bengali literature and grammar. He has more than forty books published from Bangladesh, India and former Soviet Union.As a specialist of Bengali grammar and literature, Dr. Haque worked and is still working on different projects ran by Bangla Academy, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh and such other renowned institutions. He is a pioneer in developing the rules of modern Bengali grammar. His contributions for the National Curriculum and Textbook Board to develop standard Bengali text books for primary, secondary and higher secondary classes is well known. He has been acting as the organizer, editor and article writer for the text book development committees for the last two decades.
