Shawkat Ali (born 12 February 1936) is a Bengali fiction writer. He is a journalist and teacher in the profession. In the late 20th century, he earned fame by writing stories and novels in independence-north Bangladesh. His most famous novel pradose prakrtajana .

Mother Mosammat Salma Khatun, father Khorshed Ali Sarkar The third child of my parents. He was born in Raiganj thana of northern Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal . His father used to do congressional movement. His mother was in favor of the Muslim League.

Shawkat Ali started writing in class nine. But after partition he came to Dinajpur and published a story in his first paper in the newspaper 'Nahan Sahitya' of the left wing of Calcutta. Then daily Millat, monthly Samakal, Ittefaq is published for many of his stories, poems and children.

শওকত আলী (জন্ম :১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি ১৯৩৬) একজন বাঙালি কথাসাহিত্যিক। পেশায় তিনি সাংবাদিক ও শিক্ষক। তিনি বিংশ শতাব্দীর শেষভাগে স্বাধীনতা-উত্তর বাংলাদেশে গল্প ও উপন্যাস লিখে খ্যাতি অর্জন করেন।  তাঁর অন্যতম বিখ্যাত উপন্যাস প্রদোষে প্রাকৃতজন।

মা মোসাম্মত সালেমা খাতুন, বাবা খোরশেদ আলী সরকার। বাবা-মার তৃতীয় সন্তান। তিনি ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাজ্যের উত্তর দিনাজপুর জেলার থানা শহর রায়গঞ্জে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর বাবা কংগ্রেসি আন্দোলন করতেন। তাঁর মা মুসলিম লীগের পক্ষে ছিলেন।

ক্লাস নাইন টেনে-পড়তেই শওকত আলী লেখালেখি শুরু করেন। তবে দেশভাগের পর দিনাজপুরে এসে তাঁর প্রথম লেখা একটি গল্প প্রকাশিত হয় কলকাতার বামপন্থীদের 'নতুন সাহিত্য' নামে একটি পত্রিকায়। এরপর দৈনিক মিল্লাত, মাসিক সমকাল, ইত্তেফাকে তাঁর অনেক গল্প, কবিতা এবং বাচ্চাদের জন্য লেখা প্রকাশিত হয়।
