Mohammad Rafiq (23 October 1943) A poet, writer and teacher of Bangladesh . He is considered a contemporary modern poet, whose debut was in the 1960s. During the Pakistan period, he has become famous for student movement and poetry and poetic interest in anti-autocracy movement in the eighteenth century of independent Bangladesh. He retired in 2009 as Associate Professor of English Department of Jahangirnagar University . In 2010, Bangladesh Government awarded him Ekushey Padak .He was born on 23 October in Bagerhat district of Bagerhat district in 1943. Father's name is Samshuddin Ahmed and mother's name is Rashtun Nahar. He is the eldest of eight siblings. Mohammad Rafiq spent his childhood at Bagerhat. After passing the matriculation, he was admitted to the Department of Science in Notre Dame College , Dhaka , but later he went to the Department of Humanities in Dhaka College . At this time , he became friends with fictionist Akhtaruzzaman Ilias , who had a strong impression on his literary mind.
